Capitol Tour

After living in Sacramento for many years, I had an opportunity to finally check out the Capitol and do a tour.

I've always walked by the exterior of the Capitol, but never realized the access that we "the people" are given to view the democratic process in action.

The Capitol is currently under construction, but still open to tours and viewing in the Assembly and Senate galleries. There are a few signs of construction, but the interior is still stunning.

Our tour guide called out the ornate flooring which was carefully removed, restored, and reinstalled during a previous expansion.

The colors of the Assembly (green) and Senate (red) were borrowed from the British Parliament's colors (Green from the British House of Commons and Red from the House of Lords).

The Assembly "modernized" in the 1935 with electronic push-button voting, while the Senate today is still more traditional with roll-call voting.

Regan lives not in the basement, but the "lower level".
