Wagashi Class
Making small traditional Japanese sweets with Julie, Hiro, Chelli, and Alex.
While in Japan, Julie and I met up with our friends Hiro, Chelli, and Alex and took a Wagashi making class.
Nerikiri Wagashi are small traditional Japanese sweet treats made from plant-based ingredients in an edible art form which are often seen as an element used in traditional tea ceremonies. Handmade Nerikiri Wagashi are crafted with careful attention to detail, with references to the stunning nature found in Japan. Nerikirii making takes time and patience, but the end result is satisfying for its deliciousness and thoughtful aesthetics.
But first, we had to navigate to Shibuya's Menya Musashi for our favorite tsukemen / dipping noodle spot.

Wagashi time!
Our teacher 大和さん (Owa) was so warm and helpful. We got a brief overview of what wagashi is, and a quick demo of how she makes them. Then it was our turn!

After the class, we spent the rest of the afternoon walking around Nakano. We found some delicious ice cream from a taiyaki stand, a pet store that we had to pry Julie and Chelli away from, and some vintage watches, audio gear, and anime collectibles.

It's always sad to say goodbye, but we know we'll see all of you again soon! じゃあまたね!
